Within the framework of the program “Women human rights defenders stepping up against gender based violence in Armenia” (2020-2022), “Spitak Helsinki Group” human rights NGO is implementing the “Struggle against domestic violence” two-year program in Tavush, Shirak and Lori regions. The goal of the program is to promote the elimination of violence against women in Armenia.
In 2021, discussions will be held on the topic of “Joint Ways to Prevent Domestic Violence” for the state CSO structures in the above-mentioned three regions, and next year awareness meetings will be held for women from the same communities. In July-August 2021, in the cities of Berd, Ijevan, Dilijan and in the village of Gandzakar, members of “Spitak Helsinki Group” Ashkhen Babayan and “Arevhat Petrosyan” discussed “Making Comman ways to Prevent Domestic violence” with the participation of state CSOs.
The meetings were full of heated discussions, the participants raised the existing problems in their communities and suggested ways to solve them. At the end of the discussion, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the participants of the meeting and the members of the organization. The next meetings within the framework of the program will take place in September in Shirak region and in October in Lori region. “Women human rights defenders stepping up against gender based violence in Armenia” (2020-2022) project is implemented by the Coalition to Stop Violence against Women with the financial support of the European Union.
