As part of the “Women Human Rights Defenders Take Steps Against Gender-Based Violence in Armenia” (2020-2022) program, Ashkhen Babayan, President of the “Spitak Helsinki Group” human rights NGO, and lawyer Arevhat Petrosyan held a two-day meeting on “Developing Joint Ways to Prevent Domestic Violence.” For women of Alaverdi, Vanadzor, Spitak, Tashir and Stepanavan communities.
At the beginning of the meeting, the participants completed a pre-test, which aimed to reveal the women ‘s initial knowledge about domestic violence. Then, at the end of the meeting, the participants completed the same test to evaluate the effectiveness of the meeting, to find out what effect the meeting had on women’s perceptions. At the end of the meeting, the active participants received certificates of participation.
Expert Arevhat Petrosyan spoke about the concept of domestic violence, its types and legal regulations. During the meetings, the women participants showed great interest and activity, ensuring healthy and interesting discussions, and the women expressed a desire to participate in similar meetings in the future.
It should be reminded that “Women Human Rights Defenders Take Steps Against Gender-Based Violence in Armenia” (2020-2022) meetings-discussions will be held in the communities of Tavush and Shirak regions as well.
